For a man that has been with the same institution for 61 years, a phone call firing does not suffice. For a man that has put his heart and soul into the school, including a donated $10 million library, a phone call firing does not suffice. For a man who requested he finish out the remainder of the season and that he will retire at the end of the season, a firing does not suffice. Is there no honor or recognition for a man that put his heart and soul into his work and helping everyone there, student or athlete? Did Coach Joe Paterno do something wrong? I don’t know. At this point, no one really knows. Did he not do enough? Maybe. But, did he do what he thought he was supposed to do? I think so. The sight of an 84 year old man and his wife, in tears, stepping out onto his lawn at 2:00 in the morning to 100 or more reporters with flashing lights in his face saddened me. Why are these people ruining this old man’s life? I am not a Penn State fan, nor have I ever particularly liked Joe Paterno, but at this point, it’s not about sports, it’s about humanity. He has fought his entire life for one cause: Penn State. Now, when he no longer has any real fight left in him and he needs the people who see his pain to stand up for him, there’s only one thing left to do...WE ARE: PENN STATE.
