What Joe Paterno did, or, better, what he failed to do, was an atrocious act of ignorance. In one act of covering up truth, or not pushing the right people hard enough to investigate what he thought was the case, he single-handedly tarnished any good he has done through his career. Does that mean his whole life was a waste? No, I don't think so. But, much like what happened to Barry Bonds, I think there is an asterisk on his career achievements. From now on, he will never be separated from this scandal, nor should he be. Most of all, he should not be the person who is discussed, but rather the people who have had their lives destroyed because of his negligence. Was it hard to see an 84 year old man and his wife in tears? Yes, it absolutely was. Were they tears of guilt? Quite possibly they were. It's sad that we are human, and that humans make mistakes, but this wasn't a one-time event. He could have made a bigger push any time from 8 years ago until now, yet his failure of that courage will be forever remembered. The real story in this is the kids who have been scarred for life, but, like I have always been told, what we see, know, hear, and remember, is all based on who controls our outlets for information. In this case, the sports angle heavily influenced my initial thinking, and the humanistic responsibilities were left off the table.

We Are...Humans, and we should be with the other humans who have been the victims in this situation.
