As this game moves right along, the AFC match-up will likely be equally low-scoring, if not one-sided. Here are the keys to Pittsburgh’s victory.
Bail Big Ben out. The burly quarterback’s ankle will likely be messed up for the duration of the playoffs. He’s going to need some help from the running game, even though starter Rashard Mendenhall is out and running back’s coach is in the hospital after his house suffered a fire. If Isaac Redman can’t break free, things could get problematic; don’t discredit the Broncos defense.
Stop Willis McGahee. Ever since Tim Tebow has been the starter, Denver is 3-1 when McGahee has rushed for 100 yards; their only loss was last week’s clunker. Simple logic dictates that if he’s not getting anywhere, Tim Tebow will be forced to be making the type of throws he just can’t.
Don’t lose sight of the wide receivers. Yes, Tim Tebow runs the ball a lot. Yes, he only manages to throw to his first read on most occasions. But Pittsburgh would be making a huge mistake if during the course of the game they focused too much on the Tebow factor and allowed either Eric Decker or Demaryius Thomas to break free for a big play, even if it is just one play. During the Broncos winning streak, that was all it took. In Tebow’s 7 victories, Decker only averaged 2 catches a game.
