As the first of two games today gets underway, let’s look at what each team needs to do to advance and face the defending champion Packers. Starting with New York:

Is it possible to establish the run? The Falcons have only given up 97 yards rushing per game, making this a very daunting task that has been rather useless of late. Eli is going to need some help if they want to convert third downs.

Stop Michael Turner. On the flip side, the Falcon’s rusher has over 50 yards only twice in 6 losses. There is belief that Ryan cannot handle the playoff pressure, and the best way to test that theory is to make him throw the ball on third and longs.

Jake Ballard. The Falcons have Tony Gonzalez to get open down the middle of the feet, and with a lot of focus on receiving sensation Victor Cruz, the Giants need a similar threat.
