Everyone thought it could happen. In a football sense, the option offense is just hard to play. It's that simple. Imagine being on the D and seeing the same loopy handoff move every time and then wondering where of so many places it's going to go. It's akin to having a super playaction on every snap. And on top of that, as Brian Urlacher said, Tebow's a pretty damn good running back.
Let's credit the Denver D as well. With Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil (what a name for a pass rusher!, we'll just call him The Denver Doom Dog, or just DDD or Doom for short) coming off the edges, they have as good a pass rush without dialing up blitzes as anyone in the league, except for maybe the Giants. The secondary kept with those speedy wideouts too.
They didn't turn the ball over. Everyone kept talking about that. And if you play fantasy football and know anything about owning defenses, you know that although the Steelers don't allow points, they don't get the ball back either. I had the Steelers...damn food coma and damn auto draft...
Tebow definitely showed us something this past weekend. His receivers will continue to be open too, especially speedster Demarius Thomas. It's because the secondaries of opposing defenses (where was Polamalu on that first play in overtime) are utterly confused and continue to cheat forward. They're tired of giving up 6-8 yards a carry to Tebow. So they cheat. At the right time, they get burned.
Don't think Denver can't do it again. Yes the Pats beat them in the regular season, but the Pats defense also blows. Pitt was statistically the best defense in the league (personally I'd take San Fran's). If the Broncos can get up by two possessions by grinding it out, they can then unleash that pass rush. Tebow also won't feel inclined to have to throw the ball which is where bad things begin to happen. They can do it.
All these improbable Broncos wins have me resconsidering God. Personally, I'm rooting for them, but I still ain't voting for Romney.
